- Line Flem Hoest of Norway leads the Women
- Peter Barnard of the USA leads the Men
It was another long day of AP flags, variable light wind, and testing of the sailors’ patience at the ILCA 6 Radial Worlds on Galveston Bay, Texas.
In the women, Wiktoria Gołebiowska of Poland and Line Flem Hoest of Norway won Thursday’s single race in their respective fleets.
Hoest now tops the leaderboard with nine points after the discard, one point ahead of Hungarian Mári Erdi and France’s Louise Cervera who are tied on ten points.
Belgium’s Emma Plasschaert finished second in Thursday’s race, and is now fourth overall, just one point behind Erdi and Cervera. While overnight leader, Marit Bouwmeester of Holland, drops to fifth tied on 13 points with the USA’s Erika Reineke and Silvia Zennaro of Italy.
Denmark’s Tokyo gold medallist Anne-Marie Rindom climbed back into the top 10 with a second-place finish. Rindom joins three other competitors tied on 14 points . . . Wiktoria GoBebiowska POL, Maud Jayet SUI and Sarah Douglas CAN.
A better day for the two British Sailing team competitors.
Daisy Collingridge finished third in her flight and is now 19th, and Matilda Nicholls finished 6th in her flight and is 20th overall.
In the men’s championship American Peter Barnard had his worst day so far, finishing ninth behind race winner Thomas Kraak in race 5.
But Barnard was able to discard that result to keep his overall lead with five points and five clear of Hamilton Barclay.
Nicholas Mueller is third on 13 points and William Baker fourth with 14 points.
The women’s fleet are now assigned to gold and silver fleets with the schedule updated to nine final races over the next three days.
The lack of racing in the qualifying round has kept the leading group close, just five points covering the top 12 places. And while Hoest has the best discard available at this stage there is plenty of time to lose that advantage . . . if enough racing can be completed.
