Another day on the Costa Del Solent with two more races dominated by Jan-Philipp Hofmann and Felix Brockerhoff of Germany, with a 1 and 2 to extend to an eleven point lead after six races of the 505 World Championships at Hayling Island.
Hofmann and Brockerhoff won the first race of the day, ahead of Howard Hamlin and Andy Zinn USA who continued their comeback charge with a 2 and 3 to move into second place with 21 pts.
Australia’s Michael Quirk and Tim Needham, who had challenged strongly Tuesday, went into reverse with a -43 and 13 and slip to fourth with 30 pts, while countrymen Peter Nicholas and Luke Payne AUS move pass them into third with a 9 and 5 on 29 pts.
Mike Holt and Carl Smit of the USA who had started the day in third, were well into double figure finishes with a 15 and -23 for 31 pts and 5th place.
Which brings us to the first of the British crews, Ian Pinnell and Robert Woelfel now 6th after a 10 and -14 today. While Roger Gilbert and Ian Mitchell finally hit the front with a win in race 6, which lifted them into 7th overall, tied on 38 pts with Malcolm Higgins and Nicholas Johnston AUS.
Paul Brotherton and James Fawcett GBR, who had a win earlier in the week, had a -38 and a 4 to hold steady in 9th. And Craig Burlton and Richard Anderton move into 11th with a 3 and 12 on 51 pts.
Thursday is a Lay Day with racing resuming on Friday and completing on Saturday 11 July.
