Day 1 of the 505 Class 2026 World Championship at Hayling Island Sailing Club.
Jan-Philipp Hofmann and Felix Brockerhoff of Germany are the early leaders after two races, with a 4, 2 scoreline for a three point advantage ahead of Mike Holt and Carl Smit of the USA with a 3 and 6 score.
In third are Michael Quirk and Tim Needham AUS with 12 pts and fourth Ian Pinnell and Robert Woelfel GBR 13 pts.
Winners of the first race were Australia’s Peter Nicholas and Luke Payne, who won in Sweden two years ago . . . but a 41 in the second race has set them an uphill battle to defend the title.
Winners of the second race were Britain’s Paul Brotherton and James Fawcett, which with a 13 in the first race puts them fifth overall with 14 pts.
Winners of the pre-event over the weekend, Howard Hamlin and Andy Zinn of the USA are down in 29th with 7 and 56 scores.
