The 2026 29er World Championship opened on Friday, with all six fleets launched and racing on schedule off the Olympic Sailing Center Kiel-Schilksee.
Three qualifying races were completed across three race areas. Top of the leaderboard are Argentina’s Felix Llauro and Lucas Cozar with a perfect scoreline and discaring a race win, sitting on just 2 nett points
Great Britain’s Jac Bailey and Ben Sinfield matched them on nett points in second after two race wins. Poland’s Blanka Sójkowska and Julia Nagórska sit third overall with 3 pts and lead the women’s standings.
New Zealand’s Matteo Barker and Leo Brown opened their week with a first and a second to sit fourth, while France’s Alexandre Mostini and Raphael Allain round out the top five.
Just behind, Germany’s David Plettner and Moritz Aigner lead the home charge in sixth, ahead of Sweden’s Henric Wigforss and William Drakenberg and Australia’s Hamish Skelton and Joel Beashel.
Other leading British positions; 15th GBR 3260 Dirk ROGERS and William McEWEN on 5 pts, 23rd GBR 3426 Freya HUTCHINSON and Joanna MACALISTER with 8 pts, and 29th GBR 3579 Joe WIMPORY and Jack SOLLY on 9 pts.
With only three races sailed and just a handful of points separating the top ten, everything remains wide open heading into Day 2.
