Another sun soaked day, with a 10+ knot breeze that we have become used to in Hayling Bay for this 505 World Championship.
Jan-Philipp Hofmann and Felix Brockerhoff of Germany retain their lead after two more races, posting their first win and a fourth place to see their three point lead reduced to one.
The new challengers are Australia’s Michael Quirk and Tim Needham who matched them with a 4 and 1, and moved up after being able to discard Monday’s ninth place to count 8 pts.
Now in third are Mike Holt and Carl Smit of the USA adding a 2 and 5 and discarding a 6 for a 10 pts total.
The application of the discard after four races has changed the make-up of the chasing pack, the next three competitors all coming back into contention by dropping high double figure finishes, but having no further ‘get out of jail free card’ left.
Now leading the main pack after the discard application are Malcolm Higgins and Nicholas Johnston AUS, in 4th after scoring a 9, 3 and discarding a 20.
Day one race winners Peter Nicholas and Luke Payne AUS move up into 5th after a 3 and 11 and discarding a 41. While Howard Hamlin and Andy Zinn USA hauled themselves from 29th up into 6th with a 7 and 2 after discarding a 56.
For the British competitors, Ian Pinnell and Robert Woelfel had a 6 and 7 sit in 7th with 18 pts, while Paul Brotherton and James Fawcett had an 8 and 14 for 8th on 22 pts, and Roger Gilbert and Ian Mitchell squeezed back into the top ten with a 5 and 10 and the discard of a 72.
