The Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth takes place over the weekend of the 25-26 July 2026.
Friday saw some of the top crew members giving their view of the upcoming eighth event of the season, the first for the 13 teams back in Europe after the early season Swing through Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, America and Canada.
The season has seen some dramatic events with damaged boats and injured crew members.
Now back in the UK for the second half of the season, SailGP has announced that all events, starting with the Portsmouth Sail Grand Prix, will feature a split fleet format, the so called Group Racing format.
Previously used when extreme conditions dictated, the growing number of teams has meant a change was required to maintain safety margins, as well as control the pressure placed on the build facility at Southampton.
SailGP expects to increase the teams by two per year over the next three years. These will all be built at Southampton which has a three boat build capacity per year.
As well as developing and rolling out construction improvements, while repairing and maintaining the existing fleet, wherever it is in the world.
Racing starts at 16:30 on both Saturday and Sunday off Southsea seafront. The new split fleet format means that their will be six races per day.
