Looking around the international sailing results

Just browsing the results out on the web from the last week and one event that caught my eye was the Optimist Junior Gold Cup, Bermuda. What lucky kids get to go to that? Run adjacent to the Argo International Match racing event, and sailed in front of a big crowd awaiting the Matchrace Final, the winner was Douglas Elmes from Ireland with Tomas Di Luciano of Argentina second and Damian Suri of Switzerland third. Milo Gill-Taylor was the only British entry in 13th.

Competitors in the Optimist Junior Gold Cup meet the Argo Match racing stars

The RC-44 Fleetrace World Championship was a fight between two British teams. John Bassadone's 'Peninsula Petroleum' took the title from Chris Bake’s Team Aqua. All was by no means lost for Chris Bake and Team Aqua, who’s second place secured them the RC44’s 2012 season championship, retaining the unique prize for this – a pair of golden steering wheels for their yacht.

The Finn and Star classes always attract big fleets in central europe but it was a suprise to see that the 505 class is alive and well in Switzerland. The Swiss championships on Lake Neuchatel were contested by 20 entries from five countries, won by Jean-Marc Monnard and Philippe Jacot. And another very British class the Dart 18 catamaran held its local championships on Lake Maggiore, won by Heynisch and Monika Schroder of Switzerland.
