Vendee Globe - Leaders gain distance

Alex Thomson on Hugo Boss held his third place position over Friday night and has gained on second placed Vincent Riou on PRB, but not yet cut the lead of Armel Le Cléac’h on Banque Populaire VIII.

Going into day 7 and the Vendee skippers are already feeling the warmth of the equator.

The leaders are sailing at 19 to 20 knots and covered around 200 nm overnight.

Thomson has passed Vincent Riou this afternoon (Sat) and is gaining on Armel Le Cléac’h.

Morgan Lagraviere on Safran has overtaken Paul Meilhat on SMA to claim fourth place.

The leading group of seven have now opened a gap of 80 nm to eighth placed Yann Elies on Quigunnier.

This second group are steadily loosing distance on Armel Le Cléac’h and the leading pack.
