Kirby puts pressure on Laser builders

Friday 17 May, Bruce Kirby asked the Connecticut Federal Court to issue a prejudgment remedy (PJR) against Rastegar and the LP Defendants. If granted in its totality, the PJR would prevent Rastegar and LP from use, disposal, and/or transfer of all production tooling, molds, and plugs for producing Kirby Sailboats (Lasers), copies of the Construction Manual, ISAF Plaques, and New ISAF Plaques.

Copies the pertinent court papers are available on the Kirby Torch website

A Tribute to Andrew Simpson

Thursday Artemis Racing held a private ceremony commemorating the memory of our friend and teammate Andrew "Bart" Simpson. After eight bells, a wreath was cast upon the water by representatives of the four teams of the 34th America's Cup. Then the morning's rain parted and sunshine spread across San Francisco Bay. The Artemis Racing team thanks everyone for their support. Bart, may you rest in peace.

Volvo drives British Sailing with new four year deal

Volvo Car UK has signed a new four year sponsorship deal across the Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Racing Programmes of the RYA’s British Sailing Team. Volvo will supply the RYA with some 30 cars and will also increase its support for all Olympic and Paralympic Classes sailing in Great Britain by providing an additional fleet of 30 cars directly to sailors on the RYA’s World Class Performance Programme.

Volvo has been a long-term backer of sailing in the UK, having supported youth sailing since 1999 and having been the vehicle partner of the British Sailing Team since 2009. In 2012 Volvo backed thirteen Olympic and four Paralympic sailors in their campaigns - the biggest group of ‘Team Volvo’ sailors since the sponsorship began.

ISAF President is embarrassed and confused! FULL STORY HERE

At the ISAF Mid-Year Meeting that recently took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, ISAF President Carlo Croce confessed that he was embarrassed, confused and surprised by the number of Committees, Sub-committees, Commissions, Working Parties and working groups ISAF have. Apparently you have to reach the pinnacle of the organisation that controls sailing world-wide before you notice this!

President Croce believed that: "We must look at the governance structure of ISAF. We have too many layers of decision making, which makes it harder to identify who is responsible for what and what progress is being made."

Croce also revealed that he had not enjoyed the election process and intended to make some changes (not revealed) to make things clearer and more efficient.

Police to investigate capsize of the Artemis Racing AC72 FULL STORY HERE

The San Francisco police will run a separate investigation into the capsize of the Artemis Racing AC72 and death of Andrew Simpson. The port authority and the coastguard may be involved, but first the police need to eliminate a criminal cause or culpability. A police spokesman said: "It will be at least a week or more before they figure out what happened."

America's Cup Regatta Director Iain Murray says consultation with stakeholders is already underway into the circumstances surrounding the capsize of the Artemis Racing AC72 on Thursday. Murray has scheduled a formal meeting on Tuesday, when all four teams competing in the Summer of Racing – Oracle Team USA, Artemis Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Challenge – will be in San Francisco.

Investigation into AC72 Artemis Racing capsize FULL STORY HERE

America’s Cup bosses have announced a probe into why the AC72 catamaran on which Andrew Simpson died “nose-dived” into the water, and said other AC72 boats will not train until next week. “The boat nose-dived, the boat ended up upside-down capsized, broken into many pieces,” said America's Cup Regatta Director Iain Murray, who struggled to compose himself at first. It appears Bart was trapped under some of the solid sections of the yacht, out of view out of sight to the myriad of people on board, trying to locate him,” he said.
