An easterly course saw spinnakers set from the off and John Patterson in Momentary Laps secured the best start with Jono Brown in Aeolus chasing close behind. A fierce gust saw John wiping out to windward of Aeolus who took advantage and forged ahead.

The reaching spinnaker run to Sunsail Racing was a breathtaking event with some huge gusts sending the fleet storming along the Solent. The run to the second mark in the course saw a split in the fleet with Crauford McKeon in Kandoo III and Paul Fisk in Kiss gybing early with Aeolus hanging on a tad too long to give away their early lead.

Kandoo's downwind speed once again 'kicked in' and he pulled away from the fleet to establish an unassailable lead by only the second mark. This left Kiss, Aeolus and Livez to battle for the next few places as Crauford had secured the points he needed to win the week.

But with forty boats on the start line in less than two weeks time at the Royal Yacht Squadron who knows what new faces might be staking a claim to the top title for the Wight Vodka RS Elite 2012 National Championships.
