Solo Nationals at Hayling Island

100+ boats went through scrutineering at HISC for the 2018 Magic Marine Solo Class National Championship

With registration amd measurement checks out of the way the 100+ competitors can concentrate on what looks like being a great week at Hayling Island.

The sun has not stopped shining for weeks and it looks like it will continue for the week of the Solo championships.

Racing is set for the early afternoons and with the sea-breeze on standby to arrive from 13:00 hrs it should be "champagne sailing" out in Hayling Bay.

Charlie Cumbley from Warsash SC is defending champion and has arrived here fresh from winning the Solo class Nations Cup on Lake Garda, and finishing fourth at the OK dinghy World Championships in Germany.

Challengers to look out for include: Pete Mitchell from Warsash SC, who won the recent open meeting at HISC, TIm Law of Salcombe YC, Oliver Davenport of Northampton SC and Steve Ede of Ardleigh SC.

From the host club front runners include, Lawrence Creaser and Richard Lovering.

It will also be interesting to see how the British Squad Radial sailor Ellie Cumpsty gets on in the Solo this week.

Racing for the 2018 Magic Marine Solo Class National Championship starts Sunday 22 July through to Friday 27 July.
