GC32 Lagos Cup - NORAUTO rules

Franck Cammas’ NORAUTO holds a comfortable lead at the end of the penultimate day

NORAUTO (1, 5, 1, 4) is still out in front with a 10 point lead going into the final day having added two more wins to her collection of six (from races 1 and 3 Saturday).

Owner-driver Erik Maris on Zoulou (2, 3, 4, 1) is lying second overall, and was top scoring boat Saturday, having relieved Realteam (4, 2, 2, 3) of the win in the ultra-tight finale to the last race.

He explained their motivation thus:

"We were in a rush to finish so we could watch the last few minutes of the game (France v Argentina in the FIFA World Cup). We got lucky and managed to come out in front.”

It was a win-win result as France beat Argentina 4 - 3 !

Not so lucky was Ben Ainslie-skippered INEOS TEAM UK (7, 4, 9, 7) who suffered in the third race when she broke some of the bolts in the worm-drive arrangement for one of her daggerboards.

However spares were kindly lent to the British America’s Cup team which was back in action for the day’s fourth and final race, but dropped to fifth overall.
