Kiel Week - Things can only get better

The weather failed to get into the spirit of things at the 136th Kieler Woche

Racing was restricted to just the Contender and Hobie 16 dinghy classes with several other classes trying and failing to complete their races in the tricky wind and thunderstorms.

Volker Niedek of Germany won the only Contender race, ahead of Jesper Nielsen of Denmark and Holland's Dirk Lafleur. Almost half of the 60+ fleet did not compete.

In the Hobie 16, Jens Goritz and Kerstin Wichardt of Germany topped the leaderboard after the one race completed, again with almost half the fleet not competing.

The 128 strong 29er fleet (with GBR competitors) tried a couple of starts but were eventually called in.

Conditions look better for Sunday, with the Formula 18 already racing.
