Hartshorn required four hours of surgery on his fractured, partially detached left thumb, and will need another operation upon return to the UK.

He is expected to regain full use, albeit with some potential stiffness, following recovery time.

The rest of this race will be with skipper Dan Smith now, who led his team to second place in the last Clipper Race.

After leaving Portugal, Greenings motorsailed to the position of 40°12.395N, 009°29.969W where the team restarted the race.

This point is exactly 1923.8 nm from the midpoint of the Doldrums Corridor and is the same distance that the yacht was at from the Doldrums Corridor midpoint when the incident occurred.

The overall time for Greenings for Race 1 will be calculated as the elapsed time from Race Start in Liverpool, until the time the team crosses the finish line in Uruguay.

They will be given redress for the time taken for the diversion after the medevac until the time they resumed racing.

On day 9, Qingdao, is still holding pole position, with GREAT Britain in second place and Sanya Serenity Coast third,
