Dragon Europeans - First race completed

After one race of the Dragon European Championship on Lake Thun, Switzerland, Pedro Andrade (GER 1177) leads.

Racing finally took place on Wednesday after light winds and an upcoming thunderstorm front did not allow racing on day 1.

Pedro Andrade nailed the opening race of the 2017 European Championship with his crew of Charles Nankin and Bernardo Torres Pego, who joined the Pow Wow team after owner Michael Zankel had to withdraw.

Starting near to the committee boat, Andrade soon tacked onto port and went all the way to the right hand side of the Lake.

Meanwhile, many of the 63 boat fleet elected to start further down the line as there was a port end bias.

However, it was the right side that paid catching many top sailors out, including several locals who also thought the left side would be favourable.

In second overall is Markus Brennecke (GER 1170) with third Igor Goikhberg (RUS 98).

Best placed British entry is Ron James (GBR 633) in 12th place, Gavia Wilkinson-Cox (GBR 761) is 20th.

Three races are scheduled for Thursday.
