Goodison's two wins and two third places opened the gap as Tom Slingsby fell back, his 7,2,7,5, coming up short in the face of Goodison's continued superiority on Lake Garda.

Making up ground was Kiwi Pete Burling who with a 4,1,5,4 recovered from 15th to 4th. Another recovering fast was Aussie Nathan Outteridge with a 5,5,2,2 taking him from 35th to 7th place.

Some were going in the opposite direction. Ben Paton went from 8th to 29th after a 14,11,ret,dnf scoreline (due to injury). And Tom Burton ended the day in 21st having started it in 7th.

The 77 strong gold fleet sailed on the South course in warm sunshine and a 12 - 14 knots breeze from 200 degrees. The two lap courses were short and sharp taking the lead boat about 25 minutes to complete.

In race 1, Goodison had a 30 metre lead at hte leeward gate from Scott Babbage, Rob Greenhalgh, Nathan Outteridge and Pete Burling. Goodison won from Babbage and Greenhalgh.

Race 2 saw Burling leading closely followed by Tom Slingsby with Babbage in third, Goodison in fifth. Burling extended on all legs to close out his first 2017 Moth Worlds race win. Slingsby was second and Goodison third.

In race 3 Goodison tussled for the lead with Outteridge and Iain ‘Goobs’ Jensen. Greenhalgh suffered a broken mainsheet strop and had to retire. Positions stayed the same for the top three but a Corinthian sailor, Dave Hivey snuck into fourth to break up the professionals. Burling finished this one in fifth.

In the final race it was another mad dash to the shore to tack in front of the club house.

Burling and Goodison met on opposite tacks at the top mark and it was Burling who ducked Goody to round just in the lead. Outteridge rounded third.

The three former world champions, Burling, Goodison and Outteridge battled for the lead, but it was Babbage who crossed Outteridge's bow to take his first win of the championship.

Goodison took third, Burling fourth and Slingsby fifth.

Brit Dave Hivey stays top Corinthian sneaking into the top 10 and Jason Belben remains top Master in 24th position overall.

In the Silver fleet, John Clifton (GBR) port tacked the entire fleet to win race 1 of the day by a country mile. He repeated in race 2 and scored a 7 and 4 to open a big lead over second placed David Holenweg (SUI) and Philipp Buhl (GER).

In the Bronze fleet, Hans Rasmussen (DEN) has a huge lead over Maximilian Mage (GER) and David Simmonds (GBR).
