The six America’s Cup teams completed four races sailing off Jigyohama beach on Fukuoka’s waterfront.

The final race of the day was the designated substitute race, which may be scored over the weekend should conditions not be suitable for racing.

The light wind forecast turned out to be correct with 5-10 knots throughout the races, just enough for the AC45s to pop up on one hull.

The first practice race went to the hosts, Softbank Team Japan, the second to Oracle Team USA and third to Land Rover BAR.

Land Rover BAR then took the fourth and important Substitute race win, with Oracle Team USA in second place.

The real racing starts Saturday as, for the first time in the trophy’s history, the result of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series will affect the America’s Cup.

Six races are scheduled over the next two days - three on Saturday, and three more worth double points on Super Sunday.

Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Overall Leaderboard
