Weever fish can sting

Despite its small size, weever fish bury themselves in the sand and have a really painful sting. Their most frequent victims are surfers, beachgoers, swimmers and fishermen.

At the National Marine Aquarium they have these incredible Weever fish for you to look at.

You can also find them on our coastlines; they can bury themselves in the sand and have a really painful sting.

The venom it has is a type of protein, so if you get stung put your foot in the hottest water you can (without scalding yourself) and this should ease the pain.
