Sailing in a favourable 20kts northerly wind the Vendee Globe leaders were already half way across the Bay of Biscay early this morning.

The leader is Armel Le Cleac'h (Banque Populaire) with Jean Pierre Dick (St-Michel Virbac) and Britain's Alex Thomson on Hugo Boss.

All three IMOCAs are of the new generation foiling boats. Thomson made up two miles and two places during the night.

Spanish skipper Didac Costa (One Planet, One Ocean), was still in Les Sables d'Olonne this morning with technical problems, after water leaked from his ballast tanks damaging some of his electrical system.

With leader, Armel Le Cléac'h making over 23kts the first boat is expected to pass Cape Finisterre around midday Monday.
