Melges 24 Worlds - Getting there is just the first step

The 2016 Melges 24 World Championship opens on November 29 to December 3 in Miami, USA, with 114 entrants.

The video shows how defending champion Chris Rast SUI and the EFG Sailing Team prepared their boat for container transport to the 2016 Worlds.

Rast won the 2016 Europeans in Hyeres France, and is currently considered the favorite to top the podium of this World Championship.

Chasing EFG will be the two boats that last year stood on the podium after EFG:

Andrea Racchelli’s Altea (ITA), second in Denmark and winner of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series.

And Air Force One (USA), helmed by the Olympian in Rio 2016 Bora Gulari, third in the 2015 Melges 24 Worlds and recent winner of the 2016 Melges 24 US Nationals.

Another strong team is Conor Clarke’s Embarr (IRL) who finished a strong second to Gulari at the Melges 24 US Nationals.

Gian Luca Perego’s Maidollis (ITA) with Carlo Fracassoli at the helm, winner of the 2012 Worlds will be another strong challenger.

And Brian Porter’s Full Throttle (USA), World Champion 2013 and a seven-time Melges 24 US champion is always going to be in the final mix.

For Britain the focus will be on the Corinthian division where Miles Quinton’s Gill Race Team with Geoff Carveth helming.

They are 2016 Corinthian European champions and winner of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series in its division.

Another GBR team in the Corinthian division is Stuart Simpson's Team Barbarians from the Royal Torbay YC.

Tonu Toniste’s team on Lenny (EST), 2015 Melges 24 Corinthian World Champion and 2014 Corinthian European Champion, are also favorites to get on the podium of their division.
