America's Cup winner on the rocks

Dennis Conner’s Last 12 Metre Boat, US30 Freedom, which he raced in the America’s Cup, got stuck in Greenwich Harbour on Halloween Monday.

Freedom was stuck on the rocks on Hens & Chickens, which is off Greenwich Wee Captain’s Island.

She was grounded just to the west of Hens (big rocks) and Chickens (little rocks) off Bell number 1, a navigational mark at the entrance to Greenwich Harbor.

The boat, which is aluminum, ran aground around 11:30 hrs and was able to float off a few hours later at high tide with negligible damage.

Freedom was winner of the 1980 America's Cup, defeating the challenging yacht Australia.
