Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team lead Melges 24 European Series

Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team (GBR) with Geoff Carveth helming keep their overall lead in the Melges 24 European Sailing series, with one day of racing to go.

Day 2 of the EUropean Series final event, the Lino Favini Cup on Lake Maggiore, Italy, saw EFG secure its strong position as the regatta leader with a nine point lead ahead of FGF Sailing Team.

In the first race of the day Andrea Pozzi's Bombarda (ITA) with Giulio Desiderato as tactician on the board took the win with quite a remarkable margin ahead of the Akos Csolto's team Seven-Five-Nine (HUN).

Another race win was grabbed by EFG (SUI) team with Carlo Fracassoli in helm. The FGF Sailing Team of Robert Bakoczy finishing in second followed by the Corinthian and Series leader, Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team (GBR) with Geoff Carveth helming finish third.

The FGF Sailing Team continued their consistent racing, winning the last race of the day and jumped from the ninth position to a remarkable second.

David Rowen's Imagine (GBR) with Jamie Lea calling the tactics finished race 3 in second followed by Carlo Fracassoli helming the EFG boat in third.

EFG secured its strong position as regatta leader with a discard of 11 points from the third race and with twelve points in total has a nine-points margin ahead of FGF Sailing Team (21 pts).

Tricky conditions during the last race of the day gave a 16th place for Andrea Pozzi's Bombarda, but after discard they move from fourth position to the third, three points behind FGF.

In the Corinthian division there was very close racing - the places from second to fourth are tied and the team ranked on fifth is only one point behind.

Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team jumped into the Corinthian division lead with consistent racing and strong performance with eighteen points in total.

Overall Gill Race Team lead the European Sailing Series from Andrea Racchelli of Italy with David Rowen in third.

The regatta will end with a prize giving of the Lino Favini Cup where also the Swiss Champion 2016 and the winners of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series will be crowned.
