Rio 2016 Paralympic Games is upon us

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games is upon us and the Opening Ceremony kick-started the event in spectacular fashion.

Of the 80 sailors competing, a number of them were represented at the ceremony across the 23 sailing nations and especially Ireland, where 11-time Paralympian John Twomey carried in his nations flag.

Twomey has enjoyed a long, illustrious Paralympic career, winning a gold and a bronze, Rio 2016 will be his swansong.

The first day of competition is Monday 12 September

2-Person Keelboat (SKUD18): Race 1 and 2
1-Person Keelboat (2.4mR): Race 1 and 2
3-Person Keelboat (Sonar): Race 1 and 2

The British team comprises of:

SKUD18 - Niki Birrell
Sonar - Hannah Stodel
Sonar - John Robertson
Sonar - Steve Thomas
