French Olympic multihull sailor, Billy Besson has emergency back operation

The French Olympic multihull sailor, Billy Besson had a back operation after emergency repatriation to France.

Besson, who competed in the Olympic Games Nacra 17 event with a herniated disc, was released from hospital on Saturday and must now take complete rest.

The Polynesian born sailor moved with a wheelchair between races and appeared to be in pain during the event.

With his partner, Marie Riou, they qualified for the final medal race and finished in sixth place overall.

His condition required emergency repatriation to France where he was operated on for a broken disc.
