Was this in the Team GB Game Plan?

After day 2 of the Sailing events at Weymouth not all is going to plan for Team GB. Ben Ainslie has run into a Danish brick wall called, Jonas Hoegh-Christensen, and getting round that wall is going to be difficult. In the Laser event, Paul Goodison produced a typically poor opening performance, but might not have the space in the Olympic format to recover. And in the 49er Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes finished the day in twelth and have it all to do.

A lot of "brave faces" being put on the results :

Ainslie - "I don’t think I went the right way all day, hopefully it will go a lot better.”

Morrison - “It’s frustrating, but it’s happened, we’ve got to deal with it and carry on. It’s a long event and it’s about average scores. We’ve always got the potential to go out and win two races in a day so there is no need to panic or change the game plan yet.”

There were a couple of bright spots.

Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson wasted no time in getting back into the action and a 3, 2 scoreline saw them take the overall lead in the Star event. After their poor opening race on Sunday the defending champions have not been out of the top three and with rivals Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada posting a 9, 6, Monday they have a small but important lead.

This event is looking to be a close run thing. Four races and four different winners and the top four covered by just three points. Knocking out their worse races so far shows Percy tied with Loof on 9 points, Scheidt tied with Melleby on 11 points and the Irish, O'Leary and Burrows tied with Mendelblatt of the USA on 13.

And in the women's Radial event Alison Young got her series off to a great start with a seventh in the opening race and then a tenth in the second race to finish the day in ninth. This looks to be a low scoring series with the Annalise Murphy nailing both races, beating off the regular winners, Evi van Ecker of Belgium and Marit Bouwmaster of the Netherlands.

Early days but already the patterns are forming and Tuesday could be definitive for the Finn and Star events as we reach their half-way mark before they take a break. For the rest it's still theirs for the taking but can they rise to the task?
