While we are still in state of hibernation here in Britain, EUROSAF has announced the launch of their website for the Champions Sailing Cup and published the Notice of Series. This is the new Olympic classes series that Eurosaf has created from the displaced events of the revamped ISAF World Cup.

Nothing new about the regattas in this new series, each are based on well-established events, Garda Trentino Olympic Week Garda, Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Sail for Gold in Weymouth & Portland and Kieler Woche, plus the grand final at Semaine Olympique Française, which from 2013 takes place in La Rochelle.
The first Champions Sailing Cup event is the Italian on Garda starting 8 May, which will follow the two European ISAF world cup events in Majorca, Spain and Hyeres, France taking palce in April.
The main EUROSAF event website for the new series is a basic pick and mix affair in the Sailracer house style, but fortunately four of the five event venues have designed their own, to add some interest and reflect their national style. The odd man out being the cash-strapped Brits, who have a bland off-the-shelf effort.
EUROSAF are excited so let's hope the organisers, competitors and importantly the sponsors are excited as well. With ISAF setting its cap at wider world markets involving a lot of travelling, the EUROSAF series is a sensible move to create a second circuit especially at the start of a new Olympic cycle, with lots of new crews hoping to make their mark on the road to Rio 2016.
