Low-key Team GBR entry for Miami

A total of 226 boats from 36 nations will take part in Round 2 of the new format ISAF Olympic Classes World Cup which starts on the 28 January at Biscayne Bay in Miami, USA. Team GBR has a limited entry, with competitors in only four of the 13 events: the 2.4mR, Finn, Laser and RSX. Megan Pascoe is entered in the 2.4mR, which is mainly US and Canadian entries. David Brockbank is the lone British Finn entry in a strong 30 boat fleet that includes Zach Railey and Caleb Paine of the USA and Brendan Casey of Australia.

The Laser fleet has by far the biggest entry, 71, and Team GBR has five entries: Ben Cornish, Elliot Hanson, Alex Mills Barton, Matt Reid and Jack Wetherell. Isobel Hamilton and Bryony Shaw start in a very competitive RSX event, with Olympic gold medallist Marina Alabau of Spain and Finland's silver medallist Tuuli Petaja competing.

The Nacra 17 makes its first international appearance at a major regatta and seven teams have registered to sail the new mixed crew multihull. Puerto Rican multihull legend Enrique Figueroa, with his wife Carla Malatrasi are favourites, they won Hobie 16 gold together in 1994, but have only had a few hours in the new boat.

The other new class at Miami will be the women's version of the 49er, the FX. Again a small fleet but interest will focus on the former match-race pair, Anna Tunnicliffe and Molly Vandemoer USA, who start their campaign for Rio.
