Abu Dhabi will return to the Volvo Ocean Race in 2014-15 with a team once again skippered by Britain’s two-time Olympic silver medallist Ian Walker and a stopover in the UAE capital.
The UAE capital is the seventh Host Port to be announced on the route with the race starting, as is now customary, in Alicante in Spain before visiting Recife and going on to Abu Dhabi.
Monday's double announcement follows the huge success of the city's maiden voyage in the world's toughest round-the-world race in 2011-12. On that occasion they also boasted an entrant - the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team - and a stopover - both firsts for the Middle East. Abu Dhabi become the third team to confirm their participation in the race which sets sail in December 2014 after the all-women’s Team SCA and a Brazilian boat.
