It seems all the news this weekend is focussed on the Vendee Globe - some of which it must be wishing had not made the headlines - as another boat capsizes.
Acciaona 100% EcoPowered capsized at 10:49 hrs Sunday and the helmsman, Javier Sanso is in his liferaft awaiting rescue by EH101 helicopter dispatched from the Azores island of Terceira. And Initiatives Coeur hit an unidentified floating object and the daggerboard case is cracked with some water coming in.
The other breaking news is that the International Jury has found that Jean-Pierre Dick's use of his engine to secure his boat, Virbac-Paprec 3, to a buoy in the port of San Ciprian is a minor offense - "Using the engine only to secure the docking maneuver and during a very short time (3-4 minutes), the skipper acted as good seaman and did not benefit from his breach of articles 13.2 and 13.3 of the Notice of Race."
Decision: Under the Notice of Race 11.2.6 (a), the jury decided not to award a penalty to VP3.
Jean-Pierre Dick left his mooring in the Spanish haven of San Cyprian in Galicia at 07:20 hrs Sunday morning in very light conditions. Dick is expected now in Les Sables d’Olonne between midday and 20:00hrs Monday.
