Solitaire du Figaro - Start in light winds

At 12:00 hrs on Sunday, the 38 competitors of the Solitaire du Figaro - Eric Bompard cachemire started the first leg in Deauville on a 484-mile race to Plymouth, England. Conditions were ideal for the start of the first leg: a breeze of eight knots East, bright sun, flat seas. Anthony Marchand (Ovimpex-Secours Populaire) took command of the pack along with Erwan Tabarly (Armor Lux - Comptoir de la Mer) and Irishman David Kenefick (Full-Irish The Irish Counter).

Four skippers were caught over the limit: Yann Elies (Quéguiner-Leukemia Hope Group), Charlie Dalin (Normandy Elite Team), Edmund Hill (MacMillan Cancer Support) and Nick Cherry (Redshift).

But the fleet arrived still together with an advantage for those who had tacked away off the beach of Deauville. Following a dog leg, with their spinnakers flying the leaders had an advantage with less disturbed wind and a few gybes later rounded a buoy before spectators.

Anthony Marchand confirmed his leadership, closely followed by Erwan Tabarly, Adrien Hardy, Sam Goodchild (Team Plymouth), David Kenefick and Corentin Horeau (Bretagne-Crédit Mutuel Performance).
