Penultimate weekend of Chichester YC Snowflake Open Winter Series

Inclement weather for the penultimate weekend of the Chichester YC Snowflake Open Winter Series, with wind from 15+ knots and rain. Matt Reid and Jack Howden from the Arun SC entered with their RS400 and won the seventh race for the Fast handicap series. Local club members, Jason Kirk and Hattie Culver, also in an RS400 took second. In race eight the Merlin Rockets mounted a charge, Alex Jackson and Sarah Bines winning from Steve and Sarah Cockerill, with George Yeoman and Sophie Ormsby in an RS200, taking third to protect their overall lead.

In the Medium handicap, again it was a late entry to the series, top Solo sailor Charlie Cumbley, who took the first race victory, ahead of the National 12 of William Warren and Sophie Mackley, with the Laser of Luke South third. In the second race (No. 8) Warren and Mackley confirmed their overall lead with a race win ahead of Cumberly, with local Solo sailor Mark Harper in third.

Joanna Kalderon and Imogen Bellfield of Itchenor SC in a Mirror won the first race for the Slow Handicap, with Midge and Harriet Watkins from Poole YC second. Midge and Harriet then reversed the positions to win the second race with Kalderon and Bellfield in second. Alex Butler from HISC in his RS Tera took third in both races to retain his overall lead.

The final weekend for the Snowflake Open Winter Series will be on Sunday 24 February, with an early start at 09:45 hrs.
