Merlin, Fireball and Scorpion Opens at HISC

Day 1 of the Merlin Rocket, Fireball and Scorpion Open Meetings at Haying Island SC and with the wind too strong for Bay racing, three races were held in Chichester Harbour . . . Nick Craig and Matt Mee from Frensham SC lead the Merlin fleet . . . Thomas Gillard and Richard Anderton of HISC the Fireball fleet and Andy McKee and Chris Massey of Dovestone SC lead the Scorpion event.

The Merlin Rocket Open Water event counts the Saturday racing only. Tom Stewart and Phil Dalby of Northampton SC won the first Merlin race before before being forced to drop out. Nick Craig and Matt Mee then took over winning the next two races to take the Open Water event. Second overall were Jon Gorringe and Toby Lewis of Parkstone and third Tom Jeffcoate and Ben Rayner of YDSC.

Sunday the Merlins race foer their Silver Tiller Sea event in Hayling Bay, conditions permitting.

The first day of the Fireball event was a clean-sweep for the home team of Tom Gillard and Richard Anderton, with a two point lea from Matt Burge and Richard Wagstaff of Poole YC and in third David Sayce and Nick Rees of HISC tied on points with David Hall and Paul Lonslable of the Blackwater SC.

In the Scorpion, also a two day event, Andy McKee and Chris Massey of Dovestone SC have a three point lead after winning the first two races, with HISC's Pete Mitchell and Simon Forbes winning the third race to take second. In third are Ryan and Hannah Buchanan from Weston SC just one point back. The scoring in this event is very tight with the first six covered by six points.
