After the first day of Gold fleet racing at the Kiteboard Racing World Championship, the stars of the four races of the day were Johnny Heineken (USA) in the mens and Steph Bridge (GBR) in the womens, but with the discard, the overall leader in the women is Erika Heineken (USA).
The fleets of ten leading riders in each will compete in the Medal Race and the Jackpot.
The two race courses were laid by the organizers of Yacht Club Cagliari. In the women's event, the reigning world champion Steph Bridge - captain of the British and the mother of three children, the oldest of which is also involved in the men's championship - won three out of four races against her rival Erika Heineken.
However, Erica, keeps her lead of the group of the top ten for the Medal race: 2. Steph Bridge (GBR), 3. Caroline Adrien (FRA), 4. Katja Roose (NED), 5. Nayara Licariao (BRA), 6. Christine Boenniger (GER), 7. Elena Kalinina (RUS), 8. Alice Brunacci (ITA), 9. Lilian De Geus (NED), 10. Justina Sellers (NZL).
Five races in total for the men's Gold Fleet. The first result is actually the position obtained during the qualifying races. In the lead Johnny Heineken, joining him in the Medal race: 2. Andrea Riccardo Leccese (ITA), 3. Adam Koch (USA), 4. Florian Gruber (GER), 5. Kerneur Julien (FRA), 6. Bryan Lake (USA), 7. Maxime Nocher (FRA), 8. Wilson Veloso (BRA) 9. Dave Robertson (NZL), 10. Adam Victor (BRA).
The formula for the Medal race consists of three races for each group (the first one is already the achieved placement in Gold Fleet), with short courses compared to what has been seen, and positioned in close proximity to the beach. And hopefully the Mistral breeze, to make it even more spectacular for the final of the championship, which will be open to the public from the presentation of the twenty finalists.
