Artemis Racing helmsman Nathan Outteridge gave a brief update on the status of the stress tests being conducted on the team’s second AC72. Said Outteridge:
“Yesterday we finished getting the boat altogether and flipped upside down, and this morning we started the structure tests. We have tests planned for the whole week."
"So far we’ve done a couple that look promising. These boats are complicated, so we had to do this thoroughly. Once we get to the end of the week we’ll have a better idea of where we’re sitting.
“We had to get the boat upside down to run through simulations of different loads: mast compression loads and wing compression loads on the front beam; running loads for shrouds and board systems. There are probably six or seven major tests this week.
“We’re confident it will go well. Once the tests are ticked off, then we’ll get an opportunity to go sailing.”
